Performance Assessment

The student accurately inspected and installed fall protection and perimeter protection equipment for the following: • Damage: Check for signs of wear, tear, and physical damage such as cracks, cuts, frayed edges, or broken stitches on harnesses, lanyards, and lifelines. • Deformation: Look for deformed or distorted metal parts, such as buckles, D-rings, or carabiners. • Corrosion: Inspect metal components for signs of corrosion or rust. • Functionality: Make sure all parts are functioning correctly, such as the locking mechanism on carabiners or the adjustability of harness straps. • Cleanliness: Ensure equipment is clean and free of dirt, grease, or substances that could affect its integrity. • Anchor Points: Check that anchor points are secure, undamaged, and capable of supporting the required weight. • Edge Protection: Verify that guardrails, toe boards, or other edge protection are securely installed and undamaged. • Correct Installation: Confirm all equipment is installed as per the manufacturer's guidelines. • Rescue Devices: Check the condition and functionality of rescue devices and systems. • Expiration Dates: Ensure equipment is not past its service life or expiration date, if applicable.
The student correctly identified method of moving tools and equipment to the work area through the use of a rope and pulley to lower and raise tools and equipment
The student appropriately ensured the safety system had been installed by checking the rating of the pulley and lifting strap
The student correctly selected and installed appropriate signs and barricades around the work area, including: • Work Above sign • Barrier chain • Bollards • Witches hats
The student accurately consulted with relevant personnel to ensure anchor fall protection and associated equipment was fitted and adjusted correctly by testing the anchor point by pulling on the lanyard
The student appropriately ensured all required equipment was installed correctly, including for: • Anchorage: Confirm anchor points are secure, sturdy, and undamaged. • Positioning: Check that all equipment is positioned for maximum safety. • Locking Mechanisms: Ensure all locks function correctly. • Fall Arrest System: Check harness fit, lanyard length, and device functionality. • Compatibility: Make sure all components of the system work together properly. • Rescue Devices: Confirm presence and functionality of rescue equipment.
The student correctly minimised the risk of items being knocked down when working at heights
The student correctly set up ladder by: • Setting it up on a stable surface • Keeping it at least 900mm overhand at the top • Making sure it was on the correct angle 1:4 • Making sure the ladder was secured top and bottom
The student appropriately checked access from ground to work area and ensured it was safe by checking ladder and surrounding area prior to climbing
The student accurately kept fall equipment in place and adjusted appropriately for movement during work including changing anchor point when moving from one side of the platform to the other.
